A seasoned journalist/copywriter, scroll down for a wide-ranging selection of both magazine covers and packaging I’ve overseen as editor plus reviews, previews and features I’ve penned as a freelance writer. I’ve done more than a decade of this stuff, so be reassured I know my stuff.

MEN’S HEALTH MIDDLE EAST ‘BECKHAM’ COVER

Image of Men's Health magazine

The iconic David Beckham was chosen to be the cover model for our inaugural MH Middle East edition. My main launch feature was an action plan to help residents shed their infamous ‘Dubai stone’ – weight gain associated with the sedentary UAE lifestyle. Nailing cover lines that grab  potential readers’ attention is trickier than you might imagine!

GAMESMASTER ‘DRIVER SAN FRAN’ COVER

Image of GamesMaster magazine

Magazines are often cluttered with bylines, but since this particular issue of GM was hidden within a bag I decided to take the bold move of transforming both the front and back covers into a dynamic, poster-like celebration of the Driver series…

WELSH COASTAL LIFE ‘PLENTY MORE FISH’ FEATURE

Image of Welsh Coastal Life magazine

This investigative feature on the current state of the UK fishing industry was built around interviews I’d personally conducted with a selection of stakeholders, including university professors, regulatory bodies and restaurant owners.

FOCUS ‘FUTURE 2050′ FEATURE

Image of Focus magazine

I was thrilled when the BBC science magazine Focus approached me to help them pen a cover feature on ‘work, rest and play’ in the year 2050. It was fascinating to let my imagination run wild – and a huge buzz sharing byline space with famed futurologist Michio Kaku.

XBW ‘TAKEUCHI’ INTERVIEW

Getting to interview seminal industry figures is one of the highlights of any journo’s career – even if they often require a translator! Getting Jun Takeuchi to admit he wasn’t involved withResident Evil 6 was a huge scoop, grabbing XBW lots of coverage.

TELEGRAPH ONLINE ‘HORROR’

As both a movie and gaming horror aficionado, I was tasked with recalling some of the lesser-known lights of the genre – both contemporary and classic. As you might have realised, sometimes work can be very self-indulgent! Click the pic for the full article.

MEN’S HEALTH ‘FASHION’

Before fatherhood came along, fashion was a passion of mine, so the opportunity to envisage my own six-page section – consult with stylists, models and photographers – before penning and helping lay out the piece was an incredible experience.

PSM3 ‘STAR TREK’ BAG

Image of Star Trek magazine

One of the demanding – but exciting – roles of editor is working on packaging, making sure the balance of coverage suits your readership demographics. By framing our Star Trek exclusive with a raft of other diverse hits, this issue of PSM offered something for all.

XBW ‘GTA IV: GAY TONY’

Image of Xbox World magazine

I not only edited XBW’s celebrated ‘Gay Tony’ issue but also penned the extensive lead feature. Camping my style up to celebrate the heritage of this unique GTA expansion pack was a huge treat.

GM SUPPLEMENT ‘WWE ALL STARS’

Image of WWE magazine

This was an extremely cool initiative – we got on-board with THQ & WWE to produce a glossy minimag to promote the upcoming title All Stars. Excitingly, a 10,000 copy run-on meant it was also distributed during Smackdown events at The O2!

NITRO ‘MARIO GALAXY’

I’m lucky that a lot of my work involves playing with words, and my regular input for the now-defunct Nitro magazine, both in an editorial and writing capacity, let me express my inner-child.
